Importing SVG into Blender
Blender's SVG import converts vector paths to Blender curves — enabling 3D extrusion, beveling, and rendering of any SVG design.

Supports PNG, JPG, BMP, WEBP up to 5MB
Importing SVG in Blender
File > Import > Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg).
- File > Import > Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg)
- SVG paths import as Blender Curve objects
- Each SVG layer/group imports as a separate curve
- Scale: SVG units import at 1px = 1mm by default — scale in Blender after import
- Apply scale (Ctrl+A > Scale) after rescaling to normalize the transform
Extruding SVG Curves in Blender
Convert SVG curves to 3D objects with Fill and Extrude.
- Select the curve → Properties > Object Data Properties (curve icon)
- Set Fill Mode: Front (for flat shape) or Full (for 3D extrusion)
- Extrude: increase Extrude value to push the shape into 3D
- Bevel: add rounded edge to the extrusion with Bevel Depth
- Convert to mesh: Object > Convert > Mesh — for further polygon modeling
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use complex SVG logos in Blender?
Yes — Blender handles complex SVG paths. Very complex paths with thousands of nodes may slow viewport performance. Simplify in Inkscape before importing for better performance.
How do I make a 3D text effect from SVG in Blender?
Create the text layout in Illustrator or Inkscape, convert text to paths, export SVG. Import into Blender, extrude the curve, add a bevel for 3D chamfered edges, and apply materials.
Does Blender support SVG animation?
SVG animation doesn't import into Blender — only the static path geometry. Create 3D animations in Blender using its own keyframe animation system after importing the SVG geometry.
How do I use an SVG as a texture in Blender?
Convert SVG to a high-resolution PNG (at your required texture resolution), then use the PNG as a texture in Blender's Shader Editor. SVG can't be used directly as a texture.
Why is my SVG very small after importing into Blender?
SVG pixels are interpreted as mm. A 1000px wide SVG imports as 1000mm (1 meter). Scale down by 0.001 in Blender and Apply Scale (Ctrl+A). Alternatively, resize the SVG to your target size in Inkscape before importing.
