Exporting SVG from Canva (Pro Required)

Canva Pro includes SVG export. Share → Download → File type: SVG → Download.

  • Open your design in Canva
  • Click Share (top right) → Download
  • File type → SVG
  • Click Download
  • Note: Canva Free only offers PNG, JPG, PDF — not SVG

What's in a Canva SVG Export?

Canva's SVG includes all vector elements as paths. Photos and raster graphics are embedded as base64. Text is converted to outlines.

  • Vector shapes → clean SVG paths
  • Photos → embedded as base64 (large file size)
  • Text → outlined (converted to paths)
  • Icons and illustrations → SVG paths
  • Best practice: use only vector elements for clean SVG exports

Alternative: Convert Canva PNG to SVG

If you don't have Canva Pro, export as PNG (transparent background) and convert to SVG using our free tool. Works great for logos and flat-color illustrations.

  • Canva → Download → PNG (transparent)
  • Upload PNG to imagetosvg.com
  • Select Icon or Logo preset
  • Download SVG → often cleaner than direct Canva SVG for simple designs

Importing SVG Elements into Canva

Canva supports uploading SVG files as design elements. Upload → select SVG file → it appears in your uploads. Drag onto canvas to use.

  • Uploads tab → Upload files → select SVG
  • SVG uploads appear in your Uploads panel
  • Drag onto canvas — Canva renders it as an image
  • Note: Canva doesn't support editing SVG paths directly

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Canva SVG export so large?

Canva embeds photos as base64 data inside the SVG. Use only vector shapes and illustrations (no raster photos) for smaller SVG exports.

Can I use Canva SVG files in Cricut?

Yes. Canva Pro SVG files are compatible with Cricut Design Space. You may need to ungroup elements and weld overlapping shapes in Design Space.

Can I edit Canva SVG files in Illustrator?

Yes. Canva SVG opens in Illustrator as editable vectors. Text is already outlined — you can't edit the wording, but you can reshape the letter paths.

Does Canva Free support SVG at all?

Canva Free supports SVG upload (as a design element). SVG export requires Canva Pro. You can upload your own SVG graphics to use in free designs.

How do I make a transparent SVG in Canva?

Delete the background in Canva (use the 'Background' layer and press Delete). Export with 'Transparent background' checked. This PNG can then be converted to SVG for true vector transparency.
