Procreate's Relationship with SVG

Procreate is a raster drawing app — it works with pixels, not vector paths. It doesn't natively create or export SVG. However, you can import SVG files as reference images and export Procreate artwork for vectorization.

Importing SVG into Procreate

Procreate can import SVG files as flattened raster images.

  • Tap the wrench icon → Add → Insert a File → select .svg
  • Procreate rasterizes the SVG at the canvas resolution
  • Use as a reference layer for tracing over in Procreate
  • Or place it as a template for ink and illustration work

Export Procreate Art → SVG Workflow

Create your illustration in Procreate, then convert to SVG using our tool:

  • Draw/illustrate in Procreate
  • Export as PNG (Share → PNG): use highest canvas resolution
  • Upload the PNG to our converter
  • Use the 'Illustration' preset for hand-drawn artwork
  • Download SVG — now infinitely scalable

Vectorizing Procreate Lineart

Procreate lineart converts especially well to SVG.

  • Draw on a white background using high-contrast black lines
  • Export as PNG (transparent background works too)
  • Upload to our converter using the 'Default' or 'Line Art' preset
  • The vectorizer traces the line strokes into smooth SVG paths
  • Download and import into Figma, Illustrator, or Inkscape for refinement

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Procreate export SVG files natively?

No. Procreate exports PNG, JPEG, TIFF, PDF, and Procreate's own .procreate format. For SVG output, export as PNG and convert using our tool.

Does Procreate support SVG fonts or text?

No. Procreate uses raster fonts. Export text as rasterized art, then vectorize if needed.

What Procreate canvas resolution should I use for SVG conversion?

Use 300 DPI at the final display size. Higher resolution gives the vectorizer more detail to trace. For logo work, 2000×2000px at 300 DPI is a good starting point.

Can I trace over an SVG in Procreate?

Yes. Import the SVG as a layer. Set the layer opacity to 50%. Create a new layer above and trace by hand. This is a common workflow for turning vector designs into illustrated, textured artwork.

Is there a way to use Procreate brushes and export as SVG?

Not directly — brushes produce raster strokes. Export your brush artwork as PNG and convert to SVG. For complex brush textures, the conversion will be approximate.
