- Save as SVG and upload to Cricut Design Space
- Set materials, colors, and cutting settings in Design Space
- Send to your Cricut machine for cutting
- Inkscape gives you tools Design Space lacks: node editing, boolean operations, text on path, and more
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit SVG files in Cricut Design Space?
Basic editing only  resize, recolor, rotate, mirror, weld, and slice. For advanced path editing (node manipulation, anchor point editing), use Inkscape or Illustrator first, then import the edited SVG to Design Space.
Can I design in Inkscape and cut directly without Design Space?
No  Cricut machines require Design Space for communication. There's no official Inkscape-to-Cricut direct path. You must import your Inkscape SVG into Design Space to send to the machine.
What Inkscape features are most useful for Cricut SVG preparation?
Path > Union (combine shapes), Path > Difference (cut holes), Path > Simplify (reduce nodes for cleaner cuts), Object to Path (convert text and objects to cuttable paths), and Document Properties to set artboard to cut size.
Is there a free alternative to Cricut Design Space for SVG editing?
Inkscape is the best free alternative for SVG editing  but it doesn't communicate with Cricut machines. Design Space is still required to send files to the machine. Inkscape + Design Space is the standard free workflow.
