Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use state outline SVGs for commercial products?

Geographic outlines are not copyrightable — they're facts. State outline SVGs are public domain. You can freely use state shape SVGs on commercial products (state silhouette mugs, shirts, wall art) without any license.

How do I make a custom 'home state' SVG for Cricut?

Download the state SVG outline (from simplemaps.com or Wikipedia). Open in Cricut Design Space. Add a heart or star inside the SVG to mark your city. Cut from vinyl for wall art, or cut from HTV for a home state shirt.

What's the best SVG format for a state outline Cricut project?

A simple filled black silhouette SVG (state shape as one path, filled). Import into Design Space, set size, and cut from vinyl or HTV. For layered designs: keep the outline separate from interior decorations.

Can I make a state SVG with county lines?

Yes — US Census TIGER files include county boundaries. Tools like Mapshaper.org convert TIGER shapefiles to SVG online. Simplemaps.com also has a US counties SVG map available.
