What Canva Includes in SVG Export
Canva's SVG export includes all design elements as vector paths. Text is usually converted to paths. Raster images embedded in the design are base64-encoded within the SVG file.
- Shapes, icons, and illustrations export as clean vector paths
- Text is outlined (converted to paths) — no font dependency
- Photos in the design are embedded as base64 raster images
- The overall file size can be large if photos are included
- For best results: design with vector elements only before exporting SVG
Alternative: Convert Canva PNG Export to SVG
If you don't have Canva Pro or want a cleaner vector file, export as PNG and convert using our tool. Best for logos and illustrations with flat colors.
- Export from Canva as PNG (transparent background if possible)
- Upload the PNG to our converter
- Select the Icon or Logo preset for flat designs
- Download the SVG — often cleaner than Canva's direct SVG export for simple designs
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Canva's SVG export good quality?
For simple designs with shapes and text, Canva SVG quality is good. For complex designs with photos and gradients, the SVG file size is large and includes embedded raster images.
Can I use Canva SVG exports in Cricut Design Space?
Yes. Canva Pro SVG files are compatible with Cricut Design Space. You may need to ungroup and re-weld elements in Design Space for optimal cutting.
Why is my Canva SVG file so large?
Canva embeds any photos or complex textures as base64-encoded raster images inside the SVG. For small file SVGs, use only vector elements in your Canva design before exporting.
Can I edit Canva SVG files after download?
Yes. Open in Inkscape or Illustrator. Note that text is converted to paths, so you can't edit it as text — only as vector shapes.
What if I need SVG but don't have Canva Pro?
Design in Canva, export as PNG (free), then convert to SVG using our free tool. This works well for logos, icons, and flat illustrations.
