When to Mirror Your SVG Design

Mirror your design whenever you're cutting iron-on/HTV vinyl. The HTV is placed shiny side down on the mat and flipped onto the garment — so the design must be mirrored before cutting.

  • HTV (iron-on vinyl): ALWAYS mirror before cutting
  • Adhesive vinyl applied directly to surface: do NOT mirror
  • Sublimation paper: mirror if printing (not cutting)
  • Regular Cricut cut files on card stock or paper: do NOT mirror

How to Mirror in Design Space

In the Design Space cut screen (after clicking Make It), each material panel has a 'Mirror' toggle. Enable it before cutting your HTV layer.

  • Click 'Make It' after setting up your design
  • On the cut preview screen, find your mat panel
  • Toggle 'Mirror' to ON (blue toggle)
  • Verify the design appears flipped on the mat preview
  • Cut — the physical HTV will be cut mirrored and will read correctly when flipped

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to mirror SVG before importing to Design Space?

No — mirror in Design Space on the Make It screen, not before. Design Space has a built-in mirror toggle that's easier and reversible.

I forgot to mirror my HTV design — can I fix it?

If already cut but not pressed: flip the HTV over and it will read correctly. If already pressed: unfortunately, it's mirrored permanently. Always check the mirror toggle before cutting.

Does Cricut automatically mirror iron-on designs?

Design Space does NOT automatically mirror — you must manually enable the Mirror toggle on the Make It screen for each HTV material panel.

Why is my HTV design showing backwards after pressing?

You forgot to mirror before cutting. The design was cut correctly (from the weeding side) but reads backwards when applied because HTV cuts from the back.
