How to Change a Single-Color SVG Color

Click the SVG on the canvas. In the top-left color swatch, click to open the color picker. Select a new color — this changes all elements of that layer.

  • Click SVG to select it
  • Click the color swatch in the upper left of the canvas
  • Choose a new color from the color picker or enter a hex code
  • Change color to match your HTV color before cutting for easier mat organization

Changing Colors in Multi-Layer SVGs

Multi-layer SVGs separate by color in Design Space. Click each layer in the Layers panel on the right, then change its color independently.

  • Open Layers panel (right side of Design Space)
  • Click individual layer to select it
  • Click the color swatch to change that layer's color
  • Match colors to your vinyl/HTV for accurate cut mat setup

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I change the color of my SVG in Cricut?

The SVG may be imported as a flattened image or grouped. Try ungrouping (Ctrl+Shift+G) or right-clicking and selecting 'Ungroup'. Some SVGs with embedded images don't allow color changes.

How do I make an SVG a different color for each layer?

In Design Space, click each layer in the Layers panel separately and assign the color matching your intended vinyl/HTV. This organizes the mat setup by material color.

Can I change SVG colors in Inkscape before importing to Cricut?

Yes — select the shape in Inkscape, click Object > Fill and Stroke, and change the fill color. Save as plain SVG and reimport to Design Space.

How do I make my SVG the exact color of my HTV roll?

In the Design Space color picker, enter the closest hex code for your HTV color. This doesn't affect the cut — it just helps you visualize the final project before cutting.
