Importing SVG into Figma

Figma accepts SVG files via drag-and-drop onto the canvas or File → Place Image → select SVG. Imported SVG becomes fully editable Figma vector layers — all paths, groups, and colors are preserved as Figma frames, vectors, and fills. This means SVGs from our converter import with separate color layers that you can select, recolor, and manipulate in Figma's design tools.

  • Drag SVG file onto Figma canvas — instant vector layer import
  • File → Place Image → select SVG for placed frame import
  • All SVG paths become editable Figma vector nodes
  • Colors preserved as Figma fill properties

Exporting SVG from Figma

Any Figma element can be exported as SVG. Select the element, click the '+' in the Export panel (right sidebar), choose SVG from the format dropdown, and click Export. For multi-element designs, select all elements or a frame and export as a single SVG. Use 'Include id attribute' if you need to reference specific SVG elements by ID in CSS or JavaScript.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I import SVG into Figma?

Drag and drop the SVG file onto the Figma canvas. Or use File → Place Image and select your SVG. The SVG imports as editable vector layers.

Can I edit SVG vector nodes in Figma after import?

Yes. Double-click the imported SVG to enter vector editing mode. Individual nodes on SVG paths are editable just like native Figma vector shapes.

Why does my SVG look different in Figma than expected?

Complex SVG features (filters, clipPath, some blend modes) may render differently in Figma. Simplify the SVG in Inkscape first or use a simpler design for more predictable Figma import.

How do I export a Figma icon as a clean SVG?

Select the icon component → Export panel → '+' → SVG → Export. Enable 'Flatten' if you want a single merged path. Use 'Include id attribute' for named elements.

Can I use raster images from Figma as SVG?

Export the Figma frame containing your raster image as PNG at 2x or 4x, then upload to our converter to vectorize it. The resulting SVG can be re-imported into Figma as editable vector paths.
